A very sad update: Manisha
Quite tragically, we have recently lost little Manisha.
It’s come as a total shock, and we are struggling to come to terms with it.
Manisha was displaying odd behaviour and anatomically didn’t feel right. She went straight to vets…. fully conscious bright and alert… just odd!
Quickly established, she had no sight, and suspected a Blood clot/ stroke/ high BP. We were planning supportive care for all of the above. Bloods were done, and the results were terrible- anemic/ blood transfusion scale.
An emergency specialist scan was done within 90 mins of admission. Only 1cm of her liver looked normal. She was bleeding internally everywhere due to having no platelets. Likely congenital issue stemming from liver .
Within 3 hours of admission to end of scan she had totally collapsed. She was put to rest within 20 minutes of the scan.
It was so bloody quick!! What a shock.
She passed quickly and peacefully.
Speaking to the vets and volunteers, it’s worth reminding ourselves that Manisha had a great time with us. She lived life to the full right til the end.
Many of the cats with life long injuries causing paralysis including bladder and bowel dysfunction will generally have a much shorter life expectancy ( just like people) of 2-3 yrs post trauma. Their organs are usually damaged , nerves, circulatory compromise, and brain dysfunction will all lead to a much reduced time with us and this is why it is important to love them in the way we do.
I feel sad for our losses, but I feel glad to have had them in my heart and home. I hope you all feel the same.
